THE COURSE & REQUIREMENTS
The Course
An historical and analytical introduction, considering representative monuments in their context and proposing ways of understanding visual evidence
The Survey of Art’s History in Europe introduces you to the study of art and its history. You will learn about basic identification information, how to conduct various types of visual analysis, and how to recognize and distinguish different styles in the various types of art produced in different periods by different visual cultures in Prehistoric, Ancient, and Medieval Europe.

Student Responsibilities
- Active class participation, which includes being prepared for each class, and taking part in discussion.
- Read all the assignments before class meets, as indicated on the schedule
- Attend all class meetings
- Takes notes in class and make notes while reading the textbook
Tests
- Three non-cumulative tests. Each test will comprise identifications and may also contain comparisons, unknowns, multiple-choice questions, and fill-in-the-blank vocabulary questions. There will also be a visual analysis component.
Grading
- First Test = 30%
- Second Test = 30%
- Third Test = 30%
- Participation = 10%
Attendance
- Please initial the sign-in sheet at the beginning of each class
- Attendance at every class is expected. If you expect to be absent for whatever reason, notify me ahead of time.
- Each absence without prior notification will result in a lowering of your final grade.
- Chronic absence will be noted and reported.
